Organizing for a More Relaxed Life

August 15 is National Relaxation Day — a perfect reminder that being organized isn’t just about putting your stuff away. It’s really about how we manage all of our resources: time, money, and emotional energy.

If your days feel too busy or your mind too cluttered, the solution might not be another nap or another binge-watch. It might be more clarity — and that starts with how you spend your time.

Where does your time really go?

Time is our most limited resource. When you look at how you’re spending it, does it reflect your values and goals?

  • Are you losing minutes (or hours) each day searching for things you’ve misplaced?

  • Do you find yourself stuck in passive activities like endless scrolling or background TV?

  • Are there chunks of your day that could be restructured to feel more intentional?

A good first step is to map it out. When you have a clear picture of how you’re spending your time — and where it’s leaking away — you can start to make small changes that lead to big calm.

Reclaim your time, reclaim your calm

Most people think their commute is their biggest time-waster. But with the right mindset, that time can become a chance to learn, reflect, or reset. Try listening to a podcast that inspires you or an audiobook you’ve been meaning to read. If you’re on public transit, you might even enjoy some quiet journaling or a moment of meditation (yes, even in a noisy world!).

Evening routines are another great place to reset. If you unwind with Netflix — no judgment! — maybe you can also carve out space for a hobby you’ve always wanted to try. Whether it’s photography, yoga, or organizing a space in your home that’s been driving you crazy, small steps create momentum.

A more organized life = a more relaxed life

When your home, schedule, and headspace feel clear, everything else becomes easier. Relaxation isn’t just about doing less — it’s about feeling more at ease. Organizing helps you get there.

This August, let’s use National Relaxation Day as a reminder:
If you want something different, you have to do something different.
Start by using your time wisely — and creating space for the life you really want.
