Top 10 Organizing Tips

1.  If you are planning an organizing project, start with a specific area and task.  Don’t jump around to different parts of the room/home/office. Give yourself a realistic amount of time to complete the project.

2.  Invest in organization: filing cabinets, expandable files, folders, white or chalk boards, storage bins, and a calendar for the whole family.

3.  Make a “To Do” list and write down all your to do’s – both big and small.

4.  Keep a family/household calendar that is visible, and assign a color to each family member.

5.  Sort your mail daily. Use your filing system, purge and recycle.

6.  Spend a few minutes each day “equalizing” your space.

7.  Something in, something out.

8.  Honor your possessions and your memories.

9.  Back up your data – desktop, laptop and mobile.

10.  Give your gently used items new life by selling them on eBay or Craigslist or donate them to Freecycle, Veteran’s Administration, Big Brother/Big Sister, or your favorite community organization.
